In 1869, James Kent Morris, a grocer of Ruyton-XI-Towns, moved his small business to Shrewsbury, the county town. This
modest beginning laid the foundations of the Company which has since grown and diversified to its present size and strengths.
A candlemaker’s shop in the Frankwell area of the town then became the springboard for one of his sons, another ‘J.K.’, to
progress into a growing market - lubricants. By the end of the First World War the business was becoming nationally known,
and eventually found a large permanent site in Castle Foregate, Shrewsbury. It is from here that part of the group operates to
this day, a situation that has become a landmark for all those entering the town from the north. Morris and Company is the
U.K.’s largest privately owned manufacturer of specialist lubricants and can supply every major industrial lubricant need with
a range now extending to over 1200 products.
Throughout the Company’s history, Morris Lubricants have been at the forefront of lubrication technology. From development
